Objectives
The following programme and organisational objectives emerged from
a detailed strategic planning process and are a combination of cross-cutting
themes and approaches, based on much discussion and information gained
from a situation analysis.
Programme Objectives
Strengthening Partners through establishing partnerships with
communities, community based organisations, non-governmental
organisations, government health institutions and local government
structures that support our goals and objectives.
In order to:
1. Strengthen the capacity of local institutions to
respond to community and globally identified health needs of disadvantaged
communities and
to work effectively in preventative health care. Local institutions
include governmental services, community based organisations, non-governmental
organisations and individuals such as
dharmi jankris (traditional healers)
2. Strengthen the
capacity of the Government and other partners to deliver curative
health services of a sufficient standard that meets the needs of poor
people in BNMT’s traditional areas of expertise, such as
tuberculosis and leprosy and drug supply and the rational use of
drugs.
Empowering Communities, especially disadvantaged
groups, to access and advocate for improved and equitable health
resources and services.
Modelling and Operational Research. To develop
innovative approaches that provide affordable and accessible quality
health services for women and children and the poor that can
be advocated to and replicated or adapted by other organisations.
To develop innovative model approaches for emerging
and unresolved health needs, whether specific or global, such as
HIV/AIDS, safer motherhood.
Current Interventions and New Areas
To complete the hand-over of existing programmes to
local institutions and organisations and develop and implement mechanisms
from 2003-07 that will ensure the sustainability of outcomes.

finalise the post integration phase in the hill districts and operational
research studies on various programme interventions.
